server in another  subnet is inaccessible
I have two servers Server A: IP x.x.200.9 OS windows 2008 Server B: IP x.x.195.190 OS windows 2008R2 They are in two different subnet within the intranet. They can ping each other. Situation Open the network on server A I can input the ip address of server B and access its share folders. Open the network on server B I can't access server A's share folders after inputing server A ‘s IP. The server is inaccessible. I can access both server on my laptop in other subnet. Any one knows why I can't access Server A on Server B. WHS is ready!

Hi LukeLuo if the two can ping each other but you are unable to access Server A, then it could mean you do not have permission to access the shared folders on Server A, or the firewall on Server A is blocking you from access files, or the security settings rather, please check the share settings and firewall and security settings and make sure you are allowed to access Server A from server B. Please respond once you test and if the problem persists please go to event viewer and check the logs for errors that could help us solve the issue.tech-nique

But I can access server A from my laptop. Actually, I don't have a chance to input the username/password. I think the problem is happened before authorization. WHS is ready! You can access Server A from your laptop, but not from Server B, the credentials you are using to log into Server B are they allowed to access resources in Server A?? and can you please check the logs on Server A after you have tried connecting to see if we can identify the problem. If you can ping server A from Server B with no problem, but cannot access the shared folders on Server A this seems like a problem with permissions, the credentials you are using for server B are not allowed to access Server A. Please check the logs and post them if you see something out of the ordinarytech-nique

You did not say. Can you ping Server A from Server B? Also, please compare DNS Servers and Default Gateway that you have setup on laptop and on Server B. Thank you. By the way, I am not able to see your picture because it gives an error 403 Forbidden.

Hi LukeLuo Your issue seems much more complicated than i first thought.. :( but anyway i am not sure of your network setup but please follow this link and see if the solution to your problem might be there and please respond if it was of any help or not. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958285 i hope this will be of some help.. since you said the servers can ping each other and you can access both of them from your laptop then maybe the issue is a bug as described in the article i gave you the link to. Hope you'll have some good news on your next post hehe ;) And if you are not using using vpn in your network to access the server don't quickly write of the hotfix, try it and see if it works.tech-nique
